Our machine dating service
v765_re_registration_information_update_november_2022.doc
Our Dating Officer can assist with obtaining an age related number or re-claiming an original number plate
Note in either case an inspection is required to be undertaken by an independent fully paid up member of the BTSC Ltd or a person who would be eligible to fill in the reverse of your passport i.e. a Police Office, Doctor, Local Councillor, MP etc.
You cannot inspect your own vehicle. Due to the Corona virus situation I have suspended the need for an independent inspection but will require two further pictures clearly showing the position and orientation of both the frame and engine number.
To obtain an age related plate, please complete the document downloadable from here
To re-register a motorcycle under the V765 scheme on an age related number the vehicle must be in a road worthy condition, and able to move under its own power, hold a current MOT certificate (unless exempt under the 40 year rule ). Substantially modified vehicles fall outside the 40 year rule and must hold a valid MOT certificate, (refer to the DVLA rules on modified vehicles if unsure) unless the modifications were completed over 30 years ago. Documentary evidence will be required by the club.
Please note that the Taxation Classification is HISTORIC.
The following must also be sent, the competed V55/5, two proofs of ID, one of which must be either your driving licence, passport or birth certificate the other must be a Utility bill less than 3 months old (these can be copies) the MOT certificate (if applicable) or a V112 exemption from MOT certificate, category “R” and a cheque for £55.00 made payable to the DVLA SWANSEA. For all Northern Ireland applicants a valid MOT and insurance certificate recorded on the frame number is also required.
All applications relating to foreign manufacture vehicles must first have a cleared NOVA number issued by Customs and excise. All foreign paperwork must accompany an application, if no paperwork exists a brief covering letter explaining the reason no paperwork exists will also be required. All original foreign registration documents will be retained by the DVLA and returned to the original country of issue.
An Age Related Number is only available if we can establish the date of manufacture, and the vehicle is substantially correct for that year.
In order to produce a dating certificate I will also require rubbings of the Frame and Engine Numbers together with two photographs of the numbers showing their position on the bike/engine and two photographs of your machine, one of each side, along with a cheque made payable to The British Two Stroke Club Ltd, full club member’s £20.00 part or non-members £35.00.

In order to re-claim the original registration number of a motorcycle, you must obtain forms V765 and V55/5. Fill in both of the forms and send them to me. The machine has to be recognisable as a Motorcycle preferably displaying the number you are trying to reclaim, a box of parts will not be acceptable.
Please note that the Taxation Classification is HISTORIC.
You must send me, a minimum of one of the following: The Old Style Log Book RF 60, VE 60 or other archive documentation showing a link between the frame number and the registration number, an original Sales Invoice or authenticated archive record as supplied by the original issuing county council. These I will copy and authenticate and they will be returned to you. I will also require rubbings of the Frame and Engine Numbers together with two photographs of the numbers showing their position on the bike/engine, along with a cheque made payable to The British Two Stroke Club Ltd, full club member’s £20.00 part or non-members £35.00
If you do not have any of these you will not be able to reclaim the original registration number. An old number plate, tax disc or MOT certificate is not sufficient to confirm machine identity.
An Age Related Number is available if we can establish the motorcycle is genuine and the date of manufacture, or estimated year of manufacture.
